Ethanol Fuel Calculator

The Ethanol Fuel Calculator helps you calculate the amount of ethanol-based fuel (such as E85) and regular petrol needed to achieve your desired ethanol percentage in your fuel tank. You might want to dilute the pump gasoline in your tank with a high percentage ethanol-based fuel to reach your desired mixture to increase knock resistance.

1. Select the Measurement Unit
Choose "Litres" or "Gallons" from the dropdown menu based on your preferred unit of measurement.

2. Entering your tank capacity and current fuel volumes will allow the calculator to determine how much of the new fuel is required to be added to achieve the ethanol content desired without running out of room in the tank.

Input Fuel Tank Capacity
Move the range slider to set your fuel tank capacity or enter it into the input field labelled "Enter fuel tank capacity." If you're not sure what the capacity is, check your owners manual.

Input Current Fuel Volume
Use the range slider to set your tank’s approximate current fuel volume or enter the exact volume in the input field labelled "Enter fuel volume."

Input Current Ethanol Percentage
Use the range slider to set the current ethanol percentage in your fuel or enter the exact percentage in the input field labelled "Enter current ethanol percentage." Refer to the fuel table below the calculator to find the ethanol percentage of the fuel you currently have in your tank.

3. Set the Desired Ethanol Percentage
Use the range slider to set the desired ethanol percentage you want to achieve in the input field labelled "Enter desired ethanol percentage." This is one of the main parts of the calculation, required to determine how much fuel is required to reach the desired ethanol content mixture.

4. Ethanol Content to Add
This section displays the ethanol content percentage you need to add. It is set to 85% by default, as this is the most common ethanol based fuel used in internal combustion engines aside from regular pump gasoline which isn't required to be calculated in most circumstances. If you need to adjust the ethanol content percentage, use the range slider or enter your own numerical value in the field labelled "Ethanol Content (%) of new fuel". Refer to the fuel table below the calculator to understand the ethanol percentage of the fuel you are adding.

5. Review Results
At the bottom of the calculator, you will see the results displayed:
• Total fuel to add: The total amount of fuel (E85 + petrol) to add.
• Total fuel: The total fuel volume after adding the new fuel.
Ensure the units displayed (litres or gallons) match your selection from Step 1.

6. Reset the Calculator
Press the "Reset" button to clear all inputs and results, resetting the calculator to its default state.
