Welcome!
The first blog post on TIRES + TERRAIN. It’s taken some time to get to this point but we finally made it!
Now I should probably give you a brief introduction about TIRES + TERRAIN with this being the first post on the website, but before that, I want to tell you how I got to starting the platform itself.
My Journey
I’ve been obsessed with cars for as long as I can remember. They’ve always been a part of my life, or owning a particular vehicle has always been a goal of mine. The turning point for me was after I graduated with my Bachelors Degree in Motorsport Engineering. I was on track to be back working in the automotive industry after a brief motor vehicle mechanics apprenticeship at a TVR specialist when I was 16.
In the summer of 2022, I left my job at JBM Performance in Sheffield, United Kingdom, sold almost everything I owned and moved to Vancouver, Canada. I knew I wanted to continue my career in the automotive industry, with the possibility things might be different to what I was used to. And although the automotive industry is very much present here, it is different to the UK in a number of ways. But in the interest of keeping this post on track, I’ll save that for another article.
The idea is that growing TIRES + TERRAIN will be a great outlet for me and give me a greater reason to go out and establish relationships with people in the automotive industry, not just here, but all over the world.
The Foundations
This platform has been in the works for some time now, mentally at least. I’ve wanted to start something in the industry that I have loved for so many years, but I didn’t know what.
In the last two years, I’ve started reading more automotive articles online and it helped me to realise how much I love the industry itself. I understand it and believe I can deconstruct the industry, and then something unusual and unexpected arises. Keeps it interesting at the very least.
So, I had an idea about trying out writing and started to build the website with help from my friends at Wilkes Wood.
TIRES + TERRAIN is an opportunity for me to do what excites me every day; experience things I wouldn’t in a car dealership or aftermarket tuning workshop.
What To Expect
The aim is to deliver great content to people who share the same interests and values when it comes to cars. I’m a nerd for the stats of a car, don’t get me wrong, but let’s be real. Everyone who is passionate about cars all have the same thing in common; it’s how they make us feel that matters over stats and reputation.
The automotive industry moves so fast, I want to be able to dissect it as best as I can, so you and I can get the most out of it. I want to help you get that dream car, a job in the industry or persuade you to attend that motorsport event you’ve been putting off.
Here’s a good quote I like to use:
It’s impossible to second guess the future. So seize the day and live in the moment. Buy that dream car.
Chris Harris, topgear.com
I want the writers and myself on T+T to deliver content you want more of. Any feedback will always be appreciated.
So with that in mind, I ask that you have a good rummage through the blogs and top-up your brain organ with juicy car knowledge.
Thank you for getting this far. I hope you stick around for the ride.
